Dan Truckey, Director of the Beaumier UP Heritage Center, and Dave Bezotte, librarian at Michigan Tech, will give a multi-media presentation about the French-Canadian experience in the U.P. which will feature French-Canadian songs performed by the duo. A brief business meeting will begin the evening. All museum members are welcome.

Vernon Peterson, who currently operates Points North Polygraph, having retired from the State Forensic Lab in Marquette, will give an entertaining talk about the history of the “lie detector.” He will also include a demonstration of how it works and how it has been used to crack criminal cases in Upper Michigan. $5 suggested donation

Prepare yourself for a scavenger hunt/road rally that promises to challenge your wits, sharpen your navigation skills and dares to take you all across Marquette County! Wow the competition with your teamwork by figuring out the clues at each point along the route. The final clue will reveal the finish line bash location and award ceremony! To the native Ojibwa, Ishpeming means “heaven” or ‘high place,’ which is a good start for ski history. But how can a sport of steep slopes and spandex be headquartered in a state where the tallest hill, Mt. Arvon, is only 1979 feet? It’s more than geography, dude, chalk this lesson up to world history. After all, what does skiing have to do with mining? More than you think, and Frida Waara, who has skied to the North Pole with an all woman expedition and still continues to adventure across the globe, will share the story of where skiing started. $5 suggested donation
