The Grand Island Story

The history of Grand Island from its earliest known Indian settlements through the French voyageurs, fur traders, early missionaries and explorers, and recent settlers is told in this fascinating book. It includes numerous photographs and maps, along with interesting stories and details about life on the largest island on Lake Superior’s southern shore. The author wrote the book in 1906 when she was a young high school teacher in Marquette. She spent many hours on the island and in the town of Munising, across the bay, talking with pioneers and old Ojibwas.
